GENERAL STEPS: In a 250 mL single-necked round-bottomed flask, 4-fluorobenzenesulfonyl chloride (48.5 mmol, 9.4 g, 1.0 eq.), sodium sulfite (97 mmol, 12.2 g, 2.0 eq.), and sodium bicarbonate (97 mmol, 8.1 g, 2.0 eq.) were added in sequence, followed by 60 mL of water. A reflux condenser was installed and the reaction was stirred in an oil bath at 80 °C for 4 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the water was removed by distillation under reduced pressure and the residue was dissolved in methanol and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated by rotary evaporator to remove methanol, and 10.2 g of sodium p-fluorobenzenesulfinate was obtained as a white solid product with 99% yield. | [References]
