1,3-Dibromo-2,2-dimethoxypropane is a biochemical reagent that can be used as a biological material or organic compound for life science related research. | [Synthesis]
Bromine (950 g, 5.9 mol) was slowly added dropwise to a stirred solution of compound 29.1 (157 g, 2.7 mol) in methanol (1.6 L) at 0 °C. After the dropwise addition, the reaction mixture was heated and stirred continuously for 15 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the precipitate was collected by filtration and washed with cold methanol to give compound 29.2 (450 g, 60% yield) as a white solid. | [References]
