WHITE TO SLIGHTLY BEIGE FINE CRYSTALLINE POWDER | [Uses]
2-Aminoethyl Sulfate, is a building block used for the synthesis of various pharmaceutical and biologically active compounds, including inhibitors and therapeutic compounds. It can be used in the preparation of Taurine (T007850). | [Synthesis]
General procedure for the synthesis of 2-aminoethyl sodium bisulfate from 2-aminoethanol: In a 100 mL three-necked flask equipped with a constant-pressure dropping funnel, a thermometer, and a magnetic stirrer, 9 mL (0.15 mol) of 2-aminoethanol and 9 mL of water were added. The reaction mixture was cooled to -5 to 5 °C using a cryogenic cooling circulation pump. An aqueous solution of 16.3 mL of sulfuric acid was prepared by mixing concentrated sulfuric acid with water in an equal volume ratio and slowly added dropwise to the three-necked flask through a constant pressure dropping funnel. After the dropwise addition, the reaction mixture was continued to be stirred for 0.5 hours. Subsequently, a vacuum distillation apparatus was switched to gradually increase the temperature of the reaction system to room temperature and water was removed by distillation at 15 mbar (as indicated by the oil pump). The distillation residue was transferred to 60 mL of anhydrous ethanol, stirred thoroughly and filtered. The filter cake was washed with 3 x 15 mL of anhydrous ethanol and dried to give 19.2 g of white solid, i.e., sodium 2-aminoethyl hydrogen sulfate in 90.72% yield. | [Purification Methods]
Crystallise the sulfate ester from water or dissolve it in water and add EtOH. [Beilstein 4 III 1414.] | [References]
