General procedure for the synthesis of 6-bromo-2-chlorobenzothiazole from 6-bromo-2-benzothiazolone: 6-bromo-2-benzothiazolone (500 mg, 2.2 mmol) was dissolved in phosphorus trichloride (5 mL) and the reaction was carried out at reflux for 18 hours. After completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was slowly poured into ice water. The pH of the mixture was adjusted to 9 with ammonia to neutralize the reaction. The resulting solid product was collected by filtration, washed with water and dried under vacuum to afford 6-bromo-2-chlorobenzothiazole (450 mg, 83% yield). | [References]
