3-(4-Methoxyphenyl)propionic acid is a nutrient solution that can be used to inhibit microbial growth by binding to the active site of enzymes such as carbonyl group, formation rate, acidic ph, chlorogenic acids, cinnamic acid derivatives. | [Reactions]
3-(4-Methoxyphenyl)propionic acid has been shown to react with hydrogen bond and diltiazem hydrochloride in surface methodology experiments.
| [Synthesis]
A catalytic amount of 10% palladium/activated carbon was added to a solution of 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)acrylic acid (15 g, 14.7 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (50 mL). The hydrogenation reaction was carried out at room temperature with continuous stirring for 5 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was filtered to remove the catalyst and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuum to give the white solid product 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)propionic acid in 95.2% yield with a melting point of 102-103 °C. | [References]
