Steps:

Synthesis of dihydropyrimidinones

General procedure: Aldehyde (1.0 mmol), ethyl acetoacetate (1.0 mmol), urea (1.5 mmol), Cu(OTf)₂ (0.02 mmol), and EtOH (2 mL) were added to a microwave vial equipped with a magnetic stir bar. The reaction vessel was sealed and irradiated in a microwave reactor (CEM Discover system) at a temperature of 100 °C for 1 h at a maximum power of 200 W. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature overnight and the resulting precipitate was filtered and washed with H₂O and hexane. The identity and purity of the products were confirmed by TLC, high-resolution mass spectrometry, IR and ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy
