Step c To a solution of 1.4 g (0.0046 mole) of 2-chloro-9-cyclopentyl-7,7-difluoro-5,7,8,9-tetrahydro-pyrimido[4,5-b][1,4]diazepin-6-one (VI-100) in 30 mL of dimethylformamide was added 2.27 g (0.0069 mole) of cesium carbonate, followed by 0.87 mL (0.014 mole) of iodomethane. After stirring four hours, the mixture filtered and then concentrated under reduced pressure. Ice water was added to the residue to give a precipitate. The solid was collected by filtration, washed with water and dried under vacuum to give 1.37 g of 2-chloro-9-cyclopentyl-7,7-difluoro-5-methyl-5,7,8,9-tetrahydro-pyrimido[4,5-b][1,4]diazepin-6-one (VII-100) as a white solid.
