Zilucoplan is a 15 amino acid macrocyclic peptide and an effective complement component 5 (C5) inhibitor polypeptide. It can specifically target the component C5 of the terminal complement activation pathway, thereby preventing C5 from being cleaved by C5 convertase into complement components C5a and C5b, and thus preventing downstream assembly and activity of membrane attack complexes (MACs). Zilucoplan can be used for research on immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM) and systemic myasthenia gravis (gMG).
