Mechanism of action

The basic component of hair is keratin, which is an essential nutrient and ingredient for hair growth. Keratin is a fibrous structural protein composed of amino acids rich in cysteine, which are cross-linked through disulfide bonds (- S-S -), giving keratin a high degree of hardness and elasticity. It constitutes the core structure of hair, determining its strength, elasticity, and thickness.

Hair fibers are composed of three layers: epidermis, cortex, and medulla. The epidermis constitutes the outermost layer of hair fibers, mainly composed of 5-12 layers of hard beta keratin. Its function is to protect the inner layer of hair, resist external stimuli, protect sebum and reduce water loss, making hair soft and shiny.

The hair cortex accounts for 75% to 95% of the total hair mass and is composed of soft keratin, which is an important component that determines hair performance. The dermal layer is located on the inner side of the fur surface and is composed of many small fibrous cells with coagulation power. The main component of fibroblasts is keratin, which is mainly composed of alpha keratin (50-60%) and gamma keratin (20-30%). Keratin chains intertwine with each other to form microfibrils. These spiral shaped microfibrils are further aggregated into small fibers, which are then composed of multiple spiral shaped small fibers to form large fibers. Several spiral shaped large fibers are finally combined to form fiber clusters that can be seen by the naked eye. Keratin in the hair cortex belongs to soft keratin, which has a stretchable chain structure that gives hair the ability to stretch, determining its elasticity, strength, and thickness.

The medulla is located at the center of hair fibers and is composed of degenerated and irregularly shaped residual epithelial cells. The cells are arranged loosely, with air chambers and air in between, which can give the hair a glossy appearance.
