A minor alkaloid obtained from both Cephaiotaxus hainanensis and C.fortunei, the structure of this base has been determined from chemcial analysis and the infrared, NMR and mass spectra. Hainanensine possesses antitumour properties, inhibiting the growth of P-388 cells.
