To three 100 mL reaction bottles were added 10.8 g (100 mmol) of phenylhydrazine and 11.6 g (100 mmol) of methyl 3-methoxyacrylate, followed by 100 mL of methanol as solvent. The reaction mixture was heated to reflux and kept reacting for about 6 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction solution was quantitatively analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and the yield of 1-phenyl-5-hydroxypyrazole was measured to be 85.7%. | [References]
