General procedure for the synthesis of 5-bromoquinoxaline from quinoxalin-5-amine: 17 g of quinoxalin-5-amine was added to 50 ml of water, cooled to 0 °C, 25 ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid was added slowly and stirred for 0.5 h. The mixture was then stirred for 6 h at room temperature. Subsequently, 10 g of copper bromide was added in batches and stirring was continued for 6 hours at room temperature. Upon completion of the reaction, an appropriate amount of water was added for dilution and extracted and separated using an organic solvent. The organic phase was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was separated and purified by silica gel column chromatography to give 14 g of 5-bromoquinoxaline. | [References]
