2-Carbamoyl nicotinic acid (7.47 g, 45 mmol) was suspended in CH2Cl2 (50 mL) at 0°C and Et3N (13.08 mL, 94 mmol) and methyl chloroformate (7.65 mL, 99 mmol) were added sequentially under stirring. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 8 h. The reaction mixture was then diluted with CHCl3 (50 mL), washed sequentially with water, dried over MgSO4 and subsequently concentrated in vacuum. The product was washed with hexane and dried to give methyl 2-cyanopyridine-3-carboxylate. | [References]
