General procedure: [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 (2.3 mg, 3.8 μmol) and TpMe2K (2.5 mg, 7.5 μmol) were placed in a resealable Schlenk tube. The tube was evacuated, backfilled three times with nitrogen to remove air, and m-trifluorotoluene (5 mmol) was added. After stirring the mixture for 1 h at room temperature, pinacolborane (36 μL, 0.25 mmol) was slowly added via syringe. The reaction mixture was stirred at 120 °C for 16 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The volatile components were removed under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by short-range distillation (Kugelrohr distillation) to afford the target product 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenylboronic acid pinacol ester. | [References]
