Hazard Information | Back Directory | [Synthesis]
4-Bromo-2-fluoro-5-nitrophenyl ethyl carbonate (35 g, 113 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (200 mL) and sodium bicarbonate (19 g, 227 mmol) was added. The reaction mixture was stirred at 60 °C for 4 hours. After completion of the reaction, methanol was removed by distillation under reduced pressure. To the residue, water (55 mL) was added and the pH of the aqueous layer was adjusted to 5 with 6N hydrochloric acid solution. The aqueous layer was extracted twice with ethyl acetate, the organic layers were combined and dried with magnesium sulfate. The organic layer was concentrated under reduced pressure to give the target product 4-bromo-2-fluoro-5-nitrophenol (25 g, 93% yield) as a yellow solid.LC-MS (ES) (M + H)+ m/z = 237. | [References]
