Hazard Information | Back Directory | [Synthesis]
The general procedure for the synthesis of 4,5-dichloropyrimidine from the compound (CAS:197228-37-8) is as follows: 112.5 g (673.7 mmol) of 5-chloro-6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyrimidin-1-ium chloride was mixed with 1.6 mL of dimethylamine in 630 mL of phosphorochloride. The reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 3 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the excess phosphorus trichloride was removed by distillation under reduced pressure. After the reaction mixture was cooled, it was slowly poured into 1.5 L of ice water. The aqueous phase was extracted with 500 mL of dichloromethane, and the organic phases were combined and dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate. Finally, the organic phase was concentrated by decompression to give 72.3 g of 4,5-dichloropyrimidine in 66.3% yield. | [References]
