A solution of tetrahydrofuran (THF, 40 mL) of 5-fluoro-2-pyridinecarbonyl chloride (2.30 g, 14.4 mmol, 1.00 eq.) was slowly added dropwise to a stirred saturated ammonium hydroxide solution (40 mL) at 0 °C. The reaction mixture was stirred continuously at 10 °C for 30 min. Subsequently, the solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in dichloromethane (30 mL) and washed with saturated saline (2 x 30 mL). The organic phase was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 1.82 g of 5-fluoro-2-pyridine carboxamide as a yellow solid in 71% yield.
