Adenosine 5′-(β,γ-imido)triphosphate lithium salt hydrate has been used in a study to research the effects of monovalent cations Li+, Na+, K+, NH4+, Rb+ and Cs+ on the solid and solution structures of the nucleic acid components. AMP-PNP is a competitive inhibitor of most ATP-dependent systems. A good substrate for enzymes hydrolyzing between the α- and β-phosphorus atom, yet is resistant to enzymes cleaving between the β- and γ-phosphorus atom. Substrate of snake venom phosphodiesterase and adenylate cyclase.
