General procedure: 24A: Synthesis of 6-hydroxy-2H-isoquinolin-1-one. 1-Chloro-6-hydroxyisoquinoline (5 g, 27.84 mmol) was mixed with 5 M hydrochloric acid (40 ml) and placed in a microwave reactor and heated at 180 °C for 40 min. Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature, followed by filtration to collect the solid product. The resulting brown solid was washed with ether and dried under vacuum at 50 °C to afford 6-hydroxy-2H-isoquinolin-1-one in a yield of 4.45 g in 98%.
