Suitable as a laser dye | [General Description]
Carbostyril 124 (CS124) is a chromophore that can be used as a laser dye for sensitization and optical detection. It acts as an antenna molecule that facilitates the light absorption and enhances fluorescence efficiency. | [Synthesis]
GENERAL PROCEDURE: Isophthalamide (1.0 g, 9.3 mmol) was added to ethyl acetoacetate (1.2 eq, 2-3.6 g) and the mixture was heated to reflux for 20 hours. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was poured into ice (100 g) and the precipitate was collected by filtration. Purification by silica gel column chromatography (100-200 mesh, eluent methanol/chloroform, 1:99 v/v) afforded 7-amino-4-methylquinolin-2(1H)-one. | [References]
