General procedure for the synthesis of 2-methyl-7-methoxyquinoline from ethanol and m-aminoanisole: 0.005 mmol (1.1 mg) of transition metal catalyst was accurately weighed and placed in a 10 mL Young reaction tube equipped with a magnetic stirrer. Under oxygen atmosphere, 0.04 mmol of co-catalyst I, 0.08 mmol of co-catalyst II, 0.2 mmol of 3-methoxyaniline and 1 mL of anhydrous ethanol were added sequentially to the reaction tube. The reaction mixture was stirred at 150 °C for 16 hours. After completion of the reaction, the pH of the reaction solution was adjusted to neutral and left to stand for subsequent processing. The target product 2-methyl-7-methoxyquinoline was purified by column chromatography in 88% yield. | [References]
