The general procedure for the synthesis of 2-bromo-6-methoxybenzonitrile using the compound (CAS:1393739-62-2) as starting material was as follows: 1-(azidomethyl)-4-methoxybenzene (8a) (81 mg, 0.5 mmol) was dissolved in acetonitrile (0.5 mL) at 0 °C followed by the addition of iodobenzene dibenzoate (PhI(OAc)2) ( 483.1 mg, 1.5 mmol). A solution of tert-butyl hydroperoxide (tBuOOH) (5.0-6.0 M, dissolved in decane, 360 μL, 2.0 mmol) was slowly added dropwise over a period of 1 h under vigorous stirring. After dropwise addition, stirring of the reaction mixture was continued for 11 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the target product 4-methoxybenzyl cyanide (9a) was purified by silica gel column chromatography using hexane/ethyl acetate (10:1) as eluent to give the target product 4-methoxybenzonitrile (9a) as a yellow oil (55.3 mg, 83% yield). | [References]
