Dimethyldivinylsilane a useful research chemical. | [Synthesis]
Dimethyl dichlorosilane (196 g, 1.52 mol) was dissolved in 5000 mL of anhydrous ether and cooled in an ice water bath. A vinyl magnesium chloride solution (2000 mL, 1.6 M) was added slowly and dropwise over a temperature range of 0-20°C. The reaction mixture was allowed to warm up naturally. After the dropwise addition, the reaction mixture was allowed to warm up naturally and the reaction was continued for 8-16 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction was quenched with deionized water at 0°C and the resulting solid was removed by filtration. The solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure to give a light brown liquid, the target product dimethyldivinylsilane, in 85-90% yield. | [References]
