Hazard Information | Back Directory | [Synthesis]
Pyridine (17 mL, 0.4 mol) was slowly added dropwise to a solution of anhydrous dichloromethane (250 mL) containing O,N-dimethylhydroxylamine hydrochloride (10 g, 0.1 mol) and propionyl chloride (10 g, 0.1 mol) at 0 °C. The reaction mixture was stirred continuously for 24 hours at room temperature. Subsequently, the reaction solution was washed sequentially with 5% hydrochloric acid (2 x 50 mL), saturated sodium bicarbonate solution (100 mL) and brine (100 mL). The organic phase was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the colorless oily product N-methoxy-N-methyl-propionamide (10 g, 89% yield). | [References]
