To a 500 mL reactor was sequentially added 1,3,5-tribromobenzene 25 g (79 mmol), phenylboronic acid 23.3 g (191 mmol), potassium carbonate 32.9 g (238 mmol), tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium 6.12 g (3 mmol), distilled water 50 mL, and toluene 125 mL.The mixture was stirred in 125 mL of 1 ,4-dioxane and refluxed for 24 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the organic layer was separated and concentrated under reduced pressure. The product was purified by recrystallization from toluene and methanol to give 21 g of 5-bromo-1,1:3,1-triphenylene in 85% yield. | [References]
