General procedure for the synthesis of 5-phenylnicotinamide from 3-cyano-5-bromopyridine and phenylboronic acid: 3-bromo-5-cyanopyridine (1 mmol, 0.183 g) and phenylboronic acid (0.01 mmol, 11.5 mg) were dissolved in a solvent mixture of toluene/ethanol (V:V=3:1). The reaction mixture was reacted under reflux conditions for 20 hours and then terminated. After the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, it was washed with dichloromethane. The organic phase was separated and purified by silica gel column chromatography to give 0.11 g of 5-phenylnicotinamide as a white solid (yield: 56%); mass spectrum (M/Z): 198.2 (M+). | [References]
